Learning the English language supports the well-being of military foreign-born spouses and is helpful to their integration into military life. Improving English communication skills will allow foreign-born spouses to pursue further education and find employment. English as are available on larger installations and are also offered through educational institutions.
English as may also be an opportunity for English-speaking spouses to obtain employment as ESL teachers on or near installations in the United States or in overseas locations where they might be stationed. Eligible spouses may use their My Career Advancement Account Scholarship tuition assistance to help pay for ESL teacher training programs and courses.
Use the MilitaryINSTALLATIONS tool to search by installation, state or program to find the information relevant to you. Select ‘Spouse Education, Training and Careers’ from the list of programs and services, enter your installation or ZIP code, choose the radius you would like to search within and click ‘Search’ to find a point of contact to advise you on pursuing ESL opportunities.
For more information on employment as an ESL teacher, contact a SECO career coach by calling Military OneSource at 800-342-9647 or use the Live Chat feature on the MySECO website.
