Every year, 50 military spouses receive scholarships through the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Investor Education Foundation to complete the Accredited Financial Counselor program. Application information for the program, including open enrollment periods, deadlines and course dates, is located on the FINRA Foundation Military Spouse Fellowship Program website.
Once you have completed the course work and study portion of the program, you will need to take your certification exam online with a proctor. After successfully passing the examination, you can apply to participate in training programs where you can practice the skills you have learned or apply for employment in a financial counseling position. As an Accredited Financial Counselor, you could find employment opportunities in any of the following fields:
- Savings and loan associations
- Community programs
- Consumer finance companies
- Corporate credit departments
- Credit unions
- Family service agencies
- Insurance companies
- Mortgage lenders
- Uniformed services family or community service agencies
