SCORE Business Resources

If you own or are considering starting a small business, take advantage of SCORE for education and mentorship opportunities. SCORE is a nonprofit organization supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration with a national network of volunteer mentors eager to assist you and your business.

For more than 50 years, SCORE's working and retired business professionals have volunteered to support the success of entrepreneurs nationwide. In 2016, SCORE mentors helped clients start 54,072 businesses and create 78,691 new jobs.

Local SCORE offices provide a wealth of resources for entrepreneurs at more than 300 chapters across the United States. SCORE mentors understand the local economy, possess expertise in a variety of industries, understand the pulse of the business community and may make introductions to help you build your network and your business.

Some highlights of the SCORE website include the following opportunities.

  • Find a SCORE mentor. Choose to meet face-to-face with a mentor at your local SCORE chapter, browse online mentor profiles or choose both options and find the best-fit mentor for your business and situation.
  • Learn about local workshops and events or sign up for online workshops.
  • Use templates and tools to create business plans, generate financial statements, learn about growth strategies, legal issues, office operations and much more.
  • Investigate SCORE programs for veterans, service members and families and for women entrepreneurs.

As a military spouse entrepreneur, once you receive permanent change of station orders, consider connecting with a SCORE online mentor in your new location before you move to get a head start. You can also use local or online mentors to help you plan, start or expand your business or learn how to shut down or sell your business before your next PCS.

Running your own business may be the perfect career choice for your mobile military life. Using the resources and mentors from SCORE to help you get started and to grow and flourish makes good business sense.
