The Sergeant Major Douglas R. Drum Collegiate Scholarship was developed to honor the founder and first national president of the American Military Retirees Association. Scholarships are funded by donations to the American Military Retirees Foundation from AMRA members in honor of Sgt. Maj. Douglas R. Drum, whose interest in and passion for education are honored by scholarships awarded in his name. Sgt. Maj. Drum had a sincere appreciation of education, and its use as a tool of transition for our youth and retirees.
Twenty-four scholarships are awarded annually, totaling $35,000. Applicants are divided into two categories — high school seniors — incoming college freshmen — and returning college students — sophomores to seniors. Adult applicants — military retirees and spouses— may apply in the returning college student category. Identical scholarships are awarded for each category — one $5,000, one $2,500 and 10 $1,000 scholarships. These scholarships are for students attending two-year or four-year accredited, degree-granting colleges or universities. The scholarship must be used for tuition and books.
Applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Spouse, child, stepchild or grandchild of an American Military Retirees Association member
- Enrolled in a two-year or four-year accredited, degree-granting college or university
Applicant must have an American Military Retirees Association sponsor.
